Hands-on Get Constructive tasks encourage students to apply their learning to the real world around them. Icons illustrate which key skills and mindsets are being developed in each task.
High-quality illustrations, accurate diagrams, models and photos are used to demonstrate concepts.
3D models and CAD drawings have been tailor-made to illustrate each layer in the building components covered in the package. Students can manipulate the models to get a 360° view through their ebook and use the CAD drawings and associated PowerPoints as a base of learning for their own sketches.
A dedicated chapter on U values has been included. It includes step-by-step calculations as well as worked examples with solutions available online.

Skills and Assessment Book
The new write-in Skills and Assessment Book provides students with:
A learning log to complete all Get Constructive tasks that appear in the textbook.
Students are given the opportunity to record their thoughts, notes and reflections on each task.
All sketching tasks can be completed within the learning log. Space has been provided for sketches and notes. Students will have a full record of all of their sketching in one place by the end of their studies.
Space to prepare for and develop the skills necessary to succeed in both additional assessment components: Exploring the Constructed Environment and Craft Skills Assessment.
Templates for each stage of both AACs are included for students to record notes and reflections as they go.
Joinery practice has been included with mini tasks to help students develop the joinery and cutting skills to complete the Craft Skills Assessment. Health and safety is covered again in this section.
An exam practice section to practise sample exam-style questions.
Questions are organised by sections corresponding to the textbook, so exam practice is a feature of learning from the beginning of the course in Fifth Year.
